THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
50 Blood Units Goal on Nov. 4
Issue Date: October 24, 2019
Wausaukee" Wausaukee Blood Drive will be held at the High School from 1-5:30 pm on Monday, Nov. 4th. The Wausaukee Lions and Leos along with some Legion members will help. Everyone may come all day and all Wausaukee blood drives qualify for senior scholarships. This year they gave $2500 in scholarships to Wausaukee seniors.
Call Barb at 715-759-5747 or 715-927-5213 to make an appointment or just walk in. The goal is 50 pints and must be met in order to be qualified for good staffing.
Red bloods cells can also be drawn. To do this call and make an appointment as this type of donating will stop about one hour before the end of the drive, about 4:30 pm. This will count as two units or pints.
Healthy donors may give every 56 days or 8 weeks and donors may give in both Wausaukee and Crivitz all year round. The Crivitz drive is Dec. 9th from noon-5 pm and Dec. 30th from noon-5 pm at Silver Cliff Rescue. Call Anita at 920-660-0227 or Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 for appointments.
Pembine's is Dec. 2 from 10 am-3 pm at the Beecher Town Hall.
Persons must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Students 16 years old may give blood with a form signed by their parents. Every unit of blood can be used for three or more patients. Those taking medication may give blood they just need to be checked if they are ok. Diabetics may also give if they are under control. You won't know if you can give if you do not try. Rules have changed over the years and now many more are able to give.
Before donating eat a good diet and get plenty of water. This will keep your iron count up so you are able to donate. Low iron is the main reason people are unable to donate. Eating broccoli, raisins, nuts and other high iron foods helps, also.
With the holiday season is upon us we need to think of others and help save lives more than any other time of year. There are more travelers and more accidents needing blood. Please be generous and take time in our busy lives and donate blood. Each donation can help 3-5 people. What a great gift of life that doesn't cost a thing but time. We also need to help the hurricane victims.
Anyone who would like to help with the drive may call Barb at 715-759-5747 or 715-927- 5213 to let her know what time and how long you can help. Help is needed in loading, escorting donors to canteen, registration, setting up and taking down, and bringing bars and cookies. Persons may alsocall for an appointment to donate blood.
