Lyle J. Olsen, 89, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Friday May 15, 2020 at Rennes Health Care Center-West.
Born Sept. 24, 1930 in Marinette, to the late Harry and Agnes (Behnke) Olsen, where he spent most of his life, he graduated from Marinette High School in 1948 and later enlisted in the United States Navy where he served during the Korean War aboard the Aircraft carrier USS Oriskany.
He married the former Barbara Kamps in February 1952 before deploying for Korea and she preceded him in death in May of 1994. Together they raised five children.
He then married the former LaVerne Aubert in September of 1995 and he welcomed her two children, Mark (Freddie) Aubert and Linda Sakovitz into his family.
A successful business man, he was part owner of Olsen's Furniture with his brothers Bill and Bob and later Flipside Coin Machines until retiring in 1985. He also owned the Chippewa Bar in Wausaukee and Olsen Stump Grinding.
An avid lifelong boater owning many boats over the years, he enjoyed scuba diving, hunting, motorcycling and many other outdoor activities. He was a member of Resurrection Parish, the Elks, VFW and the Menekaunee Old Timers Club.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerne; five children, Dave (Mary) Olsen, Bob (Laurie) Olsen, Jim (Lynda) Olsen and Judi (Rusty) Wagner, all of Marinette and Diane Johnson of Sacramento, Ca.; LaVernes two children, Mark (Freddie) Aubert and Linda Sakovitz and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Barbara, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Bob and two sons-in-law, Bobby Johnson and Rick Sakovitz.
A private family funeral will be held. Due to the pandemic, a public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Thielen Funeral Home of Marinette is assisting the family.
