Crivitz Observes Veterans Day
Issue Date: November 18, 2020
Thanks to Ms. Kelly Robinson, Crivitz Middle School Principal, area veterans were honored during a Veterans Day ceremony held at Crivitz Middle School on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
A few weeks ago, the annual event was in jeopardy due to the Coronavirus. But Principal Robinson thought it was important to continue with the tradition, both for the students and the veterans. Other than a smaller than usual crowd and holding the ceremony outdoors, the ceremony maintained its significance. Band director Brian Kopfhammer lead the young musicians in several songs including a medley of service songs. The school choir, under the direction of Mark Allard, sang a number of patriotic songs honoring the service of the veterans. The event also included the reading of essays by the winners of the annual VFW Patriot's Pen competition; first place winner Kira Ruark and second place winner Layla Bieschke. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Ms. Robinson presented veterans with letters of thanks, written by students in the second, fourth, and fifth grades. Thanks to the teachers Jodie Pusick, Jen Sellen, and Sharon Bernier for encouraging their students to write the letters. As an adjunct to the ceremony, Rolling Thunder representative Snake presented a check from the group of $1,000 to Becca Zilleges, representative for the new Crivitz Veterans Memorial. Snake also added a personal check for $100.
