Elise M. Sonnenberg
Issue Date: December 2, 2020
Elise M. "Lisa" (Teichert) Sonnenberg, 84, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2020 from complications of dementia at Care Partners Assisted Living in Appleton.
Born May 20, 1936 in Wetzlar, Germany, to the late Hermann and Freida Teichert, in earlier years, she babysat children in Appleton and had a special place in her heart for Chris Van Heuklon, who she started watching when he was six weeks old.
She loved to cook and bake and was always looking for a good recipe. No-one went hungry when they were at her house and her specialties were potato salad and sugar cookies. The grandchildren have memories of her baking cinnamon rolls early in the mornings and spending Easter and Christmas at the house in the north woods.
She loved watching true crime shows, Lifetime movies and keeping up with celebrity gossip. She enjoyed telling stories from her childhood in Germany with her brother Heinz and of the war, but her greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She and her husband Walter wintered in Arizona and Mexico for over 24 years, where they made many friends. She was a member of Athelstane Presbyterian Church in Athelstane.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Walter; four children, Doris (Tim) McMahon, Mary (Tim) Lyons, Walter Jr. and Glen; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Heinz (Edie) Teichert and a special niece, Lisa Sutherland.
Her parents preceded her in death.
