Ruth J. (Oakeson) Erickson, 96, a lifelong area resident, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 22, 2020 at Rennes Health Care Center-West in Peshtigo.
Born July 1, 1924 in Peshtigo, to the late George and Lillian (Bandow) Oakeson, she graduated from Marinette High School in 1943. After graduation, she worked at Conant Photography Studio. One of her many talents was transforming the early black and white photos to color with her painting skills. On Feb. 16, 1946, she married John F. "Jack" Erickson at Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo and he preceded her in death in 2004. After their marriage, they became members of First Trinity Lutheran Church in Marinette.
She worked at Marinette General Hospital and then at the Boren Clinic until retiring. She was active in planning high school class reunions, assisting with church activities and volunteering in her children's schools. She shared the history of the Peshtigo Fire as a volunteer at the Fire Museum and enjoyed painting, photography, pinochle, trivia, crossword puzzles and time with family and friends.
She is survived by three children, Mary of Milwaukee, Richard of Green Bay and Rebecca (Steven) Ennocenti of Pewaukee, WI.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Marie) Oakeson of Waunakee; a sister-in-law, Gina Oakeson of Oshkosh and many other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; a sister, Mary (Arno) Zeitler and a brother, George Oakeson.
A private service was held Friday, Nov. 27 at First Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Christian Eisenbeis officiated with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo. Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home of Marinette is assisting the family.
