Santa Claus To Visit Pembine On Dec. 20

Issue Date: December 17, 2020

At the monthly Pembine Town Board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8, Town Chair Ross Bole announced that Santa Claus will be coming to town for a visit on Sunday, Dec. 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Town Hall. There will be an opportunity for youngsters to meet Santa in person, and have their pictures taken with him. In accord with coronavirus precautions, only one family will be admitted at a time, and everyone except kids aged four and under will need to wear a mask.

Christmas ornaments were put up in the community except for two that had wiring issues, and need to be replaced.

The meeting was called to order by Bole at 6 p.m., with Supervisor Vince Czahor, Supervisor Mike Newingham, Clerk/Treasurer Suzanne Allen and three citizens present.

Bole reported workers had cut the right of way on Wiggins Lake Road. A few stumps will need to be removed and some culverts need to be put in. The road will be pulverized and lifted in spring.

Bole stated that plowing will be done 50/50 this year, meaning fifty percent of the snow is pushed to each side of the street. Once the plowing gets finished and as the snow piles up the Town will then clear away the banks. He also reported that the Town has officially finished the fuel tank for diesel fuel and has switched from Insight FS to Krist for its fuel supply.

The town hall was used six times in November, including the Nov. 3 election and the audit on voting equipment.

Supervisor Newingham reported he is waiting to hear back regarding when the park bathrooms will be updated.

A question on the feasibility of putting the ice rink back in at the park pavilion was briefly discussed and a posting will be put on Facebook to see what kind of interest there is in putting the rink back in.

There were four permits issued in November, one for a fire number, one for an addition, and two for renewal permits. Bole reported that when fire numbers are ordered from now on they will be the flag style fire number signs to provide better visibility for the fire department.

Terie Clark gave an update on the Plan Commission's progress on gathering information for a new Town Hall/Garage. They reviewed the plans from the Beecher Town Hall/Garage and had a copy with some changes that would fit Pembine's needs. The Plan Commission would like to have a meeting with the Board and the road crew present to review specific needs. They also reported they are currently waiting to hear back from Marinette County regarding the land at the corner.

Bole stated he only had one garbage complaint on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. He had also made a Facebook post regarding where garbage cans should be placed for pick-up.

Bills were audited and paid and the next regular town board meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, at 6 p.m. at the town hall.
