Roland E. Kamps

Roland Edmund Kamps of Markesan WI died peacefully on the morning of Saturday January 9, 2021 comforted in the loving arms of his beloved wife Susan of 42 years in San Tan Valley, Arizona.

Roland was born February 18th, 1939 in the Township of Pound, WI in Marinette County to Louis and Elsie Kamps. He was the 8th boy and 8th child in a family of 13 children, 9 boys and 4 girls. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Lena High School in May of 1957. After high school Roland enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) and proudly served throughout the United States.

After his service in the Air Force Roland came back to Wisconsin and settled in Markesan where he began his career selling life insurance for Northwestern Mutual Life of Milwaukee, WI. Roland sold life insurance throughout Green Lake and Marquette Counties for over 50 years until he was forced to retire due to illness. During his career Roland served over 6,000 clients selling over $100 million dollars of life insurance to multiple generations of clients and their families.

While living in Markesan, Roland met and married his first wife Marlene Irene Mildebrandt. They had two children, a son Rodney Roland Kamps and a daughter Julie Ann Kamps. After being married to Marlene for 9 years and 6 months she suddenly passed away.

Roland met and married his second wife, Susan Ann Dillie in Markesan. Susan had two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Collett and Tammy Sue Collett. Roland and Susan continued living in Markesan raising their combined family.

While in Markesan Roland enjoyed playing softball and bowling. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and taught his wife Susan and all 4 of his children to hunt and fish. He enjoyed hunting for deer, goose, turkey and rabbit. He also enjoyed traveling with his brothers and friends to hunt and fish in Canada, Montana, Colorado and Texas where he hunted bear and elk.

Roland loved the Lord and reading God's word. He was active in several Bible studies and in his Church. His unwavering faith in God and his love of Jesus Christ got him through many obstacles and brought him unexplainable strength and great joy. He was a Christian example for all who knew him.

Roland is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elsie Kamps,; his first wife, Marlene (Mildebrandt) Kamps; his mother and father-in-law from his first marriage, Lynn and Frieda Mildebrandt; his mother and father-in-law from his second marriage, Roy and Jannette Dillie; 6 brothers, Louis, Raymond, Verlin, Harvey, Leland and Harold Kamps; 1 sister, Irene and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Roland is survived by his 2nd wife, Susan Kamps; Son, Rodney Kamps; Daughter, Julie Kamps Hensley (Fiancé' Joseph Ling); Daughter, Cheryl Smith with her children Drew King and Ella Smith; Daughter, Tammy Collett (Husband Christopher Pobstman) with her 2 children Andrew Ferrell (wife May) and Makayla Ferrell (Jan Pidal). Roland also has 2 great-granddaughters, Blakelee King and Gabrielle Pidal. Roland is also survived by 2 brothers, Gerald (Sally) Kamps and Hilbert (Janice) Kamps; 3 sisters, Elsie (Sandy) Sandelin, Rita (Edward) Van Sliedrecht and Ruth List, brothers and sisters-in-law Donald (Gloria) Mildebrandt, Darwin (Rose) Mildebrandt, Marcel (Marian) Mildebrandt, Lorraine Kamps, Rose Kamps, Sharon Kamps, Joanne Kamps, Tom (Sue) Dillie, Kathy (Larry) Zang, Patricia (Michael) Sias, Joanne (Randolph) Tracy, Mary Ann Verosta, Shane Polkavich and Diane Dillie, along with many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

No funeral services have been scheduled at this time. A Celebration of Life for Roland Kamps is planned for this summer in Green Lake County WI. Services are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Chapel, 401 W. Roosevelt Ave., Coolidge, AZ 85128.
