Vicki Fick Honored For Her 20 Years On School Board

Issue Date: January 20, 2021

At its meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 13, Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School Board saluted Board President Vicki Fick for her 20 years of service to the local school board. She was to be formally recognized for that achievement by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) at its convention, which is being held from Wednesday, Jan. 20 though Friday, Jan. 22, but District Administrator Andy Space said because the convention is being held virtually this year the award and the plaque commemorating her service were being presented to Fick in person at the local school board level.

"The district and the WASB are proud to recognize her dedication and commitment to the children of our district," Space declared.

Space told the board the Class of 2020 had raised more than the required 50 percent of the projected individual cost of the senior class trip by the January 15 deadline.

It was a meeting for announcing honors. The Board was informed that an article in "Science Teacher" magazine had been co-authored by Dale Vajko, the District's Science teacher.

Principal Lynn Stankevich reported Students of the Week for January are Rylee Gregg, Karma Hartwick, Brandon Anderson, Katie Shafron and Amelia Schintgen.

Events highlighted for the January Calendar of Events were the BDP Math Competition for grades 4 through 12 sponsored by the Math Team that took place Friday, Jan. 8, Semester Exams that were be held Jan. 18 through 21 and a Teacher In-service day scheduled for Friday, Jan. 22.

A part-time para-professional position has been posted to replace the person who recently left.

Board members were updated on the Athletic Co-Op meeting was held virtually on Thursday, January 7th.

Board members present for the meeting in addition to Fick were Tina Duenweg, Brian Bousley and Mandy McLain. Board member Ryan Berger was absent.

School Counselor Chryss Veirauch presented the District's revised Academic and Career Plan (ACP), which was approved by the board as presented.

Veirauch also informed the Board about a new scholarship that will be available to the District's seniors starting this year..

Motion to limit all Special Education Open Enrollment to no more than the current 4K-12 grade case load and to place no limitations on open enrollment for regular education students for 2021-2022 was approved without dissent.

Under the heading of "Bylaws and Policies in 2020," the board voted without dissent to adopt the 2020 Adoption Resolution.

A motion to certify that the School Violence Event Drill Evaluation and Report from January 5, 2021 was reviewed by the School Board was also approved without dissent, as was an employee FMLA request.

The employee handbook was discussed regarding language to cover if a pay day falls on a holiday. Motion was made to approve the presented Employee Handbook update regarding Payday Direct Deposit. All voted aye, except that McLain abstained, none opposed motion carried.

After completing other business the board went into Closed Executive Session to discuss Administrative Contracts. After returning to open session the board voted without dissent to approve language changes to the administrative contracts.

The board scheduled a workshop meeting for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, and the next regular meeting for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
