Town of Peshtigo Firefighters Respond to Trailer Home Fire

Issue Date: February 3, 2021

An early evening fire destroyed a mobile home and contents at the Joe Michalko residence, N1845 Hale Road, on Wednesday Jan. 27. A passerby called the Marinette County Dispatch Center who then paged the Town of Peshtigo Fire Department at 5:24 p.m. the fire department arrived on scene at 5:35 p.m. Seventeen firefighters from the Town of Peshtigo Fire Department responded according to Fire Chief Mike Folgert.

A son, Joseph Larschied, was doing chores when he noticed smoke coming from the trailer he then ran to the home to make sure his father was out of the trailer. Michalko and Joe then tried to extinguish the flames with buckets of water before firefighters arrived.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames. Chief Folgert called for a MABAS working still alarm which brought in an engine company consisting of four firefighters and chief from the City of Peshtigo Fire Department. Paramedics from Aurora Bay Area Medical Hospital and Emergency Rescue Squad personnel stood by in case anyone was injured. Peshtigo Police Department and Marinette County Sheriff's Department was called to provide traffic control and to close Hale Road while firefighters extinguished the blaze. Road King Construction was called out to salt the road where water had accumulated.

No injuries were reported and the fire departments cleared the scene at 8:22 p.m. American Red Cross was in contact with Michalko and he will be receiving some assistance from them. Members of the community and friends have also been dropping off donated items at the Peshtigo Feed Mill. Michalko is currently staying with a friend. Cause of the fire is under investigation by the Town of Peshtigo Fire Department.
