Cougars Keep M&O Top Spot; Suring Moves Up

Bulldogs Come Up Short Against Pioneers

The Peshtigo girls dropped a tough one to swallow on Saturday night, falling to Sevastpol by a 43-41 score after a last-gasp attempt to tie or win the game failed.

With just about 15 seconds to play and the Bulldogs down by three, Allison Dudka hit a shot that appeared to be a 3-pointer, but her toe was on the line and the Bulldogs still trailed by one.

After a foul and one made free throw at the other end, Peshtigo had a chance to tie or win, but the Bulldogs had to go the length of the floor and make a shot in 4.1 seconds.

They didn't end up getting a shot up, as the ball was stolen before it made it down the floor.

When Peshtigo looks back at the game, coach Bruce Parkovich and the rest of the team won't look back on that last-ditch effort, however. They'll have to look at their offensive output for the rest of the game.

Peshtigo shot 23% from the field and made just two of their eight free throws in the game.

"They probably deserved to win more than we did because we just turned the ball over too many times and shot 23%, so you're fighting the whole game to stay with them," Parkovich said. "I give them credit, they made their shots at the end and they're getting a lot better, Sevastopol, so we just have to regroup now and get ready for Tuesday when we go to NEW Lutheran."

After the win, Sevastopol was on a four-game win streak.

"They had won three in a row, now it's four in a row. They have been playing very good and we were just behind the whole game," Parkovich said. "They played well. They would stall a lot during the game when they're ahead and I think that sort of tires us out a little bit. We needed a couple shots."

Peshtigo was led by Sydney Lund with 15 points and Grace Wickman with 11 points. Emma Gilligan had nine points.

Sevastopol was led by Zoe Kuehn and her 23 points.



Bulldogs Second Half Struggles Lead to Loss to Storm

The Peshtigo Bulldogs have proven themselves to be capable defenders throughout the 2020-21 season, but so far, offense has eluded coach Bruce Parkovich's team.

That was the case again on Friday against Kewaunee, with Peshtigo dropping a 37-30 contest. The Bulldogs scored 16 points in the first half, missing four of six attempted free throws and turning the ball over too often, Parkovich said.

After the score was tied at the half, Kewaunee scored the first 14 points out of the break over a five-minute period.

Peshtigo cut the lead to 30-27 on a bucket by Grace Wickman, who scored five points on Peshtigo's 11-0 run to cut back into the lead.

In the final five minutes, Peshtigo would score just one point, however.

"We turned the ball over and we missed all our free throws, so that combination is going to get you in trouble right there," Parkovich said. "We made a nice comeback but then we need a basket. Even in the first half, we had wide open shots. They just didn't fall. There's nothing you can do about that."

Peshtigo would finish 5-for-11 at the free throw line in the game.

Parkovich also said the Bulldogs struggled with the physicality of their opponents and ended up turning the ball over too many times.

"We're not great ball handlers. That's one of our weaknesses and I think it sort of showed up tonight. What I try to tell them is 12 to 15 feet you've got to be away from each other. We're throwing it with 20 feet, so now there's a chance it can be intercepted, it can be deflected, so as I said, turnovers just really hurt us," Parkovich said.

Grace Wickman scored nine points for Peshtigo and Sydney Lund had eight.



Gillett Secures Win Over Wausaukee

The Gillett Tiger girls bagged a big 57-28 win over the visiting Wausaukee Rangers Monday night, defeating the girls in red and white with some excellent shooting.

Over the first half the Tigers fired off a whopping 37 points while stopping the Rangers at a mere 13 first half points. during that first half the Tigers' Carliegh Kaczmarek shot the lights out for 14 points.

Though Wausaukee took the loss they had the evenings top performer in Rachel Schlies who obtained 16 points. Teammate Steph Luccarini bagged nine points while Forst got two.

Gillett was led by Kaczmarek with 14 points and Aubrey DeBauch with 12 points. Kris Schaal posted 10 on the night.



Crivitz Survives Battle with Lena

The Crivitz Wolverines had a real match on their hands last Monday night when they took on the Lena Wildcat girls in Lena. After the final buzzer the Wolverines had won the match 59-50.

The win saw the Wolverines post 36 point during the first half while holding the Wildcats to 30 points. Over the second half the Wolverines shot for another 23 points while the Wildcats fell short of a comeback with 20 points.

Mckenna Sellen had an excellent gamer shooting for the Wolverines with 17 points on the night while teammate Kate Richlen chipped in 15 points. Riley Mueller added 10 points to the tally.

Lena was led by Chalea Rabas with 17 points and Natalie McNurlen with 16 points.



Suring Takes Win Over Niagara

The Suring Eagles took a nice win last week over the Niagara Badgers who they defeated 49-39 Monday night in Niagara.

Niagara had a slow start, getting only 16 points over the opening minutes of competition. The Eagles on the other hand had no troubles getting the ball where it needed to go as they held the edge at the half 27-16.

That lead was only very marginally attacked over the second as the Badgers outscored the Eagles over the closing frame 23-22.

Kate Mahoney led all scorers for the Eagles with 15 points. Kyle Stelzer added 12 points while Smith chipped in seven to the effort.

Alyssa Cretton posted 14 points for the Badgers while teammate Borchardt added on nine points. Bailey Pearson posted eight.



Lena Takes Big Win Over Tigerton

The Lena Wildcats were not going to be denied their win Saturday evening in Lena when they took on the Tigerton girls who they handedly defeated 51-32.

This match was all about the start and the Wildcats had a great one, blasting Tigerton over the opening minutes with a 22-9 attack.

The second half was much better for Tigerton who posted 23 points to the Wildcats' 29.

After the final buzzer Chaela Rabas had proved her worth on the court as she posted a massive 27 point tally. Teammates Natalie McNurlen and Kennedy Marquardt both chipped in seven points each.

Tigerton was led by Elizabeth Robbins with 11 points and Adrienne Brady with eight.



Gillett Bags Win Over Crivitz

The Gillett Tigers added up enough to take down the Crivitz Wolverines in Crivitz Thursday evening, 51-28.

The lopsided win saw the Tigers get ahead early and evener look back as they Wolverines struggled to overcome a 24-14 first half deficit.

Unfortunately for the Wolverines the Tigers weren't looking to slow the pace over the second half as they shot their way to a 27-14 second half differential.

Leading the way for the Wolverines was Riley Mueller with 16 points. Jose-Bemis posted six points.

Aubrey DeBauch carried the bulk of the scoring with her 21 points for Gillett. Kris Schaal and Carliegh Kazemarck finished with eight points each.



Coleman Slams Lena

The Coleman Cougar girls made very few mistakes in their 44-26 handling of the Lena Wildcats Thursday night in Coleman.

The match was pretty much over after the first frame which saw the Cougars fire in 27 points to the Wildcats' 10. The second half wasn't a whole lot better for Lena who posted an additional 16 points to the Cougars' 17 closing frame points.

Aubrey Bintz was the leader of the nights scoring with 15 points. Teammate Hailey Ziemerfinished with six points while Cameron Compe added four points.

Lena was led by Natalie McNurlen and Kennedy Marquardt with eight points each. Chaela Rabas added up four points.



Florence Falls to Wausaukee

The Florence Bobcats hosted the Wausaukee Rangers Thursday night and were handed a 45-40 loss by the Rangers.

After the first half of play the game was knotted up at 20-20. It was in the second half that the Rangers found the opening they needed to create the five point margin they carried to victory.

Leading the way for the Bobcats was Leah Young with 11 points and Victoria Peterson with 10 points. Isabella Mans chipped in eight to the effort.



Oconto Drops Match By Narrow Margin to GB NEW Lutheran

The Oconto Blue Devil girls saw their match with the Green Bay New Lutheran Blazers end on a sour note as they fell to the Blazers 48-44.

The close match was neck and neck throughout as the Blue Devils found themselves behind by one point at the half 22-21.

Unfortunately for the Devils a 26 point effort from the Blazers would be enough to overcome their 23 point second half effort.

Leading the way for all scorers during the contest was Lianna Baxter who posted 22 points for her Blue Devils. Maggie Sohrweide added up 13 points while Hannah Moe chipped in six points.

The Blazers were led by Bailey Scholz with 12 points and Josie Nelson with 11 points. Steph Frappy and Mattie Zimmer posted eight points each.



Marinette Falls to Lux-Casco

The Marinette Marine girls could not get the gears turning enough to stop the Lux-Casco Spartans last week as the Spartans plowed their way to a 53-40 final verdict.

Leading the way for the Marinette girls in the loss was Pieper with 17 points and Boettcher with 12 points. Smalls chipped in five points.

Lux-Casco was led by Thiry with 16 points and Adams with 13 points. Grese posted nine.



Oconto Gets Win Over Sturgeon Bay

The Oconto Blue Devils secured a 53-41 win over the visiting Sturgeon Bay girls Monday night.

The win was a hard fought one as the Blue Devils found themselves behind going into the locker room 24-21.

But with some great defense and shooting to boot the Blue Devils went wild over the second half. Shooting their way to a 32 point tally and holding the Sturgeon Bay girls to just 17 points.

Even though Sturgeon Bay lost they did have the nights top scorer Carley Wodack with 19 points. Teammate Ashley Albrets posted 16 points while Morgan Reinhardt got three.

Oconto's Lianna Baxter led the way for the Blue Devils with 17 points. Hannah Moe added 14 while Alyse Viestenz added nine.



Coleman Takes Win Over Seymour

The Coleman Cougars showed that they can play out of their conference just as well as they can play in it as they took down the Seymour Thunder by way of a 61-40 final score.

Coleman seized the lead over the first half with a 25 point rush that overshadowed Seymours 16 points.

The second half was more of the same as the Cougars piled on another 36 points while stopping the Thunder at 24.

Seymour was led by Heather Krause with 10 points and Micayla Siles with 10 points as well. Andi Volz got seven on the night.

Cameron Compe led all scorers for the Cougars with 17 points while Micheala Zeitler chipped in 15 to the effort. Haile Ziemer also played tough with 14 points.
