If you would like to make a brighter future for our youth please consider making a donation to DAR Boys & Girls Club PO Box 211 Menominee, MI 49858.

For more than 105 years, The DAR Boys & Girls Club has enabled young people most in need to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Today, more than 4,600 Clubs serve over 4.7 million young people through Club membership and community outreach. Clubs are located in cities, towns, public housing and on Native lands throughout the country, and serve military families in BGCA-affiliated Youth Centers on U.S. military installations worldwide. They provide a safe place, caring adult mentors, fun and friendship, and high-impact youth development programs on a daily basis during critical non-school hours. Club programs promote academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. In a Harris Survey of alumni, 54 percent said the Club saved their lives. To learn more please visit www.thedar.org or call the Club at 906-863-9512.

"The Miracle"

The rivers and lakes sprang from the teardrops

As the creation first began,

And flowers and trees and grasses grew

Before the birth of man.

And mountains were built from rock and toil

And deserts were made of sand,

And forests grew to create a home

For all the animals of the land.

Some say it was a miracle

When a dove flew over the sea,

Carrying an olive branch in it's mouth

As the wind played a symphony.

The canyons with their rocky cliffs

Painted shades of gray and red,

The vast oceans with their mystery

Where sea life slept in it's bed.

The meadows where the fawns danced

Amongst the daisies and the green,

The valleys where the wild horses ran

It was the most beautiful dream.

The silent streams that wound through swamps

Where speckled brook trout swam,

The ambered plains where buffalo grazed

Beside the sheep and lamb.

The waterfalls that fell like magic

Into bubbling pools of white and blue,

The crimson sky of the morning

Reflecting down on droplets of dew.

Some say it was a miracle

When a dove flew over the sea,

Carrying an olive branch in it's mouth

As the wind played a symphony.

Wild roses appeared upon the hills

As teardrops fell on sea and land,

It was the most beautiful dream

As songbirds sang and life began.

Roger Lanich,

Wausaukee

"The Fawn"

Somewhere,

A fawn lies on the ground

Just born a few hours ago,

Hidden in it's tangled garden

Away from violence and hatred and strife

As the soft winds start to blow,

It's wobbly legs try to stand

It falls a time or two,

But soon it will be running free

As all free things must do.

Roger Lanich,

Wausaukee
